The Human Project

Postby static » Mon Jul 14, 2008 11:56 am

Mission:

Doing studies and such are kinda typical for me. I usually spend at least an hour or so a day (or every other day) modeling and sculpting something like a head, arm or foot for practice. Well considering I do it anyways I figured that I could actually create some final pieces, and work on my texturing abilities, out of them so heres the plan. I'm gonna model a team of misfits. The main guy will be a bond/bourne style character and the rest will be supporting characters. All the males will use the same base body, tweaked for build and posture, but will have unique clothing and heads. I wanna play with hair too so they wont all be bald dudes :) I would like to do the same with females as well so we'll see what happens.
Anyways, wish me luck, crits welcome

Heres the base with 2 lvls of sculpting... still a ways to go..

Personally, for the secret agent, I like the idea of the tux, but a little more "style" to it. Like you have. Have the shirt tail hanging out, the jacket wide open. Stuff like that is really cool imo.

I really like this last char alot. Throw in some pouch bags on the side of the shorts and make his shirt ala drake's fortune, mullet style. tucked in at front and hanging on the back.
Oh ok. i dont know what you are gonna go with this one, but i just had the idea of him being a rock climber.

http://images.inmagine.com/img/pixland/ ... 251066.jpg

think would be pretty sweet.
your model has the right porportions. just make a helmet, make the shorts bigger and more close to the body, some nice climbing shoes and all that gear. and it will look amazing.
Infact, making a rock mountain and then riging him so that he is climbing the rock would make an awesome turnarround piece. Even better, instead of a rock mountain, make one of those walls that they use to pratice climbing. would make a sweet diorama.
:)

I think this is a rendering artifact (GI samples?) but his skin has a noisy look to it. Almost like he has thousands of smaller age spots on his face. Is this a render issue or on the actual texture?

Love the shirt, but not liking the jeans much. I think it's how bright they are.

What about something like this:

Image

I just think the vibrant standard denim is kind of clashing a bit with the style.

The texture also has them kind of feeling like a softer material ,like sweat pants, rather than thick harder denim. Feels like their is a cotton like fabric overlay on them, which I think is really what's doing it. Anyway, I am liking the progress though, a lot. Can't wait to see the next update.

there is micro detail in the normal map and thats prolly the "noise" you are seeing. If I take it out the face will look flat when there are close-ups. There is no GI, just a straight render from Maya. As far as the materials go I completely agree, not only with the pants and shirt (im gonna try for a silk shirt) but for the face as well. Right now nothing has spec maps so hopefully I can get to that soon. Ill see what I can do with the jeans color.. I dont mind it but maybe it could use for some tweaking. Thanks for the crits

By you shape, you mean the wrinkles and all that? It looks like you changed the wrinkles, and I like them a lot better. They feel sharper, which helps boast that they are a harder cloth material :) nice work man!

hum. the pants now have a crease that looks like they are from a pant suit.
Dont really think anyone irons their jeans like that. could be wrong. looks weird tho.
THe shirt looks nice, but right now, it looks like leather and not silk. maybe you need to add a little falloff to the reflection so it acts more velvety.

edit::: hahahahah I had the front edge going down the right leg set to hard normals... wow, I thought something looked off.

Yeah the shirt looks leathery right now. I don't think it's the power of the spec, but rather, you would have to use a shader that lets you control 2 spec values at once (kinda like a CD or cooking pan)?. I don't know, I just remember silk having a very unique look when it comes to light reflectivity, but I could be wrong, and I am too tired this morning to look for images yet ;)

Haha, I love the idea of surf shorts. And no, his waist band looks pretty good to me imo. I'm digging this guy big time!
